IS THERE GOING TO BE A 2021/2022 SEASON?

Updated August 2021

The short answer: We hope to return soon but aren't quite ready.

The long answer: As a WFTDA league, we are following WFTDA's Return to Play Guidelines and have a number of metrics to meet before we can return to practice. We are choosing to not restart our practices until Covid testing rates are under 5% for the Memphis Metro Area for two consecutive weeks. We have hit these metrics before and are hoping to see a downward trend soon.

Once MRD is able to resume practices,  we will have to take several weeks to retrain our skaters  to get them back and ready safely. This will delay bootcamps and new recruits as we will have to monitor our community spread. So.....things are still very up in the air for when our seasons will resume to normalcy. We're eager to return. But we have to do it in the safest way possible, not just to avoid sickness, but to avoid physical injury as well.

In 2022, we will hit our 16 year anniversary as a recreational sport in Memphis. We'd like to think we're still very much a part of the Memphis community and of what makes Memphis such a wonderful, unique place to live. We are hoping to keep our community involvement up during this year and next. But alas, we're going to keep telling you to "check our facebook for updates." Because, truthfully, we'll update that when we have something a little more solid.

We will continue to prioritize the health of our league members as well as the Memphis community.

You can find more info about WFTDA'S return to play plan on their website here.

COVID -19 UPDATES

We are continuing to monitor and listen to the advice from the CDC and Shelby Department of Health. As of March 12, 2020, Memphis Roller Derby decided to cancel practices until further notice. We understand that new information regarding the COVID-19 virus is updated on a day-to-day basis. As a result, announcements about our events and games will be updated on a month-to-month basis.

As much as we love this sport, we value the health of our athletes, volunteers and fans more. Please slow the spread by practicing social distancing, wearing your mask and regular hand washing.
