Memphis Roller Derby is constantly looking to expand our Zebra Crew, which is made up of skating refs and NSOs. Skating refs wear ref stripes, are on skates during the game, and call penalties on the skaters during the game. NSOs in Memphis Roller Derby wear gray shirts with the WFTDA logo, and keep track of all the stats through the bout such as time, score, penalties, and line-ups. You might wonder what the time commitment is like, and it honestly isn’t rough; the Zebra Crew has one practice a week (currently on Tuesday evenings at the Pipkin Bldg.), but you are welcome to attend more of the practices if you would like. Outside of that, MRD only has 1 home game a month which zebras attend and that’s it. Zebras are more than welcome to attend league meetings, join committees, and attend fundraising/PR opportunities, but it isn’t required.
